Where Escondido's water comes from
Escondido solved its water problem early: in 1895 it dammed Bear Valley to create Lake Wohlford and cut a canal in from the San Luis Rey River. That same canal-and-lake system, modernized many times since, still feeds the Escondido-Vista treatment plant today.
